LoUELLA O’Herlihy
Acupuncturist - 5 Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine
-
Louella graduated from the renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (Reading) with a first class BSc Hons degree. Having studied both Five Element Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) she offers an integrated approach to treatment.
Five Element acupuncture addresses the patient’s deepest constitutional imbalance with an emphasis on treating at an emotional or ‘spirit’ level; whilst TCM treats at a more physical level and addresses a range of illnesses. This combination of treatment styles allows clients to be treated holistically; taking account of wider aspects of a patient’s health and well-being; treating not only the main complaint, but to also identify and address underlying causes, and related symptoms. Louella has a passionate belief in keeping the body, mind and spirit functioning optimally before it becomes unbalanced, by supporting emotional harmony. The Five Element approach in particular focuses on this aspect.
Previously, Louella worked for 14 years in the NHS as a Physiotherapist practising in both inpatients and outpatients, with a special interest in women’s health and paediatrics and latterly as a Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist in Cystic Fibrosis for 8 years.
Louella enjoys her ‘downtime’ competing for GB Age Group in both Duathlon and Triathlon and became World Champion in May. It was competing at this level that first opened her eyes to the benefits of acupuncture and its ancillary techniques including cupping, moxabustion, gua sha and electro acupuncture, all helping to keep her ‘match-fit’!
Louella volunteers on Tuesday mornings at the Wessex Cancer Support Centre (Bournemouth). Acupuncture has been beneficial in treating common side effects including pain, nausea, neuropathy, insomnia and emotional issues.
